Large porous alumina prepared by special process as carrier, adding special additives, impregnating the carrier with active components salts, drying and calcining to produce HTP-1 guard catalyst. It is a guard catalyst with good performance for hydrogenation catalyst. It not only has a good ability to absorb iron, arsenic, mechanical impurities, colloid, asphaltene and other impurities in raw materials, but also avoids iron and arsenic impurities entering the pore of the main catalyst, which can cause the main catalyst to be polluted and deactivated . The catalyst can protect the main catalyst effectively and remove impurities such as sulfur, nitrogen and saturated olefins a certain extent, reduce the load of the main catalyst and prolong the service life of main catalyst.
